Dive Sites in Myanmar

Northern Island (Long Island)

Northern Island, locally known as Long Island, is suitable for both beginner and experienced divers. Beginners can enjoy shallow dives ranging from 6 to 10 meters, while experienced divers can explore depths of 18 to 22 meters. Diving around the entire island is possible, but it depends on weather conditions. Occasionally, there may be surface and down currents. All dive sites feature similar coral reefs and reef fish. Sharks and turtles are not commonly found in the area (based on my experience in Ngwe Saung over the past five years). The highlight of Northern Island is the excellent visibility, with clear waters reaching up to 20 meters.

Southern Island (Bird Island)

Southern island, my favorite dive site, is locally known as Bird Island. It offers depths ranging from 15 to 18 meters, gradually transitioning from shallow to deep. At 18 meters, the seabed is entirely sandy. More corals in the site, including hard coral and table coral. Sometimes, we can see school of barracuda and yellow tail snaps fish around the dive site. Easy to dive and offers a variety of underwater attractions. Visibility here is comparable to that of the northern island.

Outer Island

The Outer Island, situated far from the other islands, is suitable for experienced divers only. With depths reaching a maximum of 30 meters, it offers a diverse marine life, including groups of giant trevally, lionfish, scoping fish, etc. However, diving at this site is contingent upon weather conditions; if there are strong winds and waves, diving may be prohibited.
